Beverly Shupp
Cover artist Beverly Shupp describes her process of making cover art this way: "The first thing I do . . . is to go through my stamp supply and see what I have to suit it. As for the elves, gnomes and fairies, I wanted to see what [designs] I had, what sizes I had, which way they were facing and what they were doing. Then I started figuring which would go together, which were the larger ones to use in the foreground, smaller for the background (to show distance and depth), and what could be used in the air (the aboveground part of the composition)." As Shupp winnowed her design elements, she turned her attention to her artist tools and accessories, a reflection in many ways of, simply, her preferences honed over the years. "I used dye inks with sponges, markers, blenders and white acrylic paint for the fog, on white, glossy cardstock," Shupp adds. She also used a stamp positioner. A tool she has grown to appreciate more and more. |
